Here’s how I saved a bundle of money on yarn and crochet supplies on Cyber Monday and how you can do the same with a little planning.
Our family uses an app called Giftster to share gift lists.
We started doing this after three different people all bought our son the same item for Christmas resulting in a couple of upset grandparents and two returns.
We each keep a running list of the things we want so that the rest of the family doesn’t have to ask what someone wants for birthdays, graduations, or Christmas.
The app keeps track of things that were bought without notifying the recipient but so that others buying for the same person know if something has already been purchased.
This alone has saved us a ton of frustration!
On my own “want” list, I’d started including Joann gift cards.
This was something easy that others could buy for me in any amount and as an avid crocheter they’d know I’d not only use them but greatly appreciate them.
Over the course of a year, I’d amassed $150 in Joann gift cards.
It just so happened that shortly before Thanksgiving I’d also finally decided what I wanted to crochet for our upcoming first grandchild.
I’d found the yarn on Joann but it was a bit pricey so I waited on making the purchase.
The Monday after Thanksgiving – once our family who had been visiting left town and we’d had time to clean up the house – I decided to take a look at the yarn online again.
Of course, it was now Cyber Monday so the yarn was on sale!
Then I remembered I had also had that stack of Joann gift cards (yes, I know – I purposefully had them on my want list, received them, and promptly forgot I had them…it’s an age thing…) and I was so excited!
Plus, I’m a Joann rewards member so I had some extra savings and coupons I could use.
I not only bought the yarn for the baby project I had in mind but also bought some of my favorite yarns of which I was running low.
I got a bit more than twice the yarn I would have otherwise and it didn’t cost me a penny.
I now have a reminder on my phone that notifies me in advance of Cyber Monday so I can plan the spending of my gift cards accordingly.
So, start stacking up gift cards, join any rewards programs for your favorite craft store, and set a reminder on your phone to do your major yarn shopping on Cyber Monday.
